Curious about film photography but not sure where to begin? This course brings together two essential workshops to help you master the basics. It’s the perfect introduction for anyone looking to learn how to shoot and develop film with confidence.

We begin with an introduction to film photography, where you’ll get familiar with analogue cameras, learning how to handle film, properly expose your shots, and compose interesting photographs. You’ll also get hands-on practice during the session with a roll of film we provide, allowing you to shoot as you learn. At the end of this workshop, we’ll give you another roll to shoot at your own pace, which you’ll bring back for the next session.

In the second workshop, you’ll take a deep dive into the magic of black & white film developing. Here, you’ll learn to process the two rolls you shot, working through each step of hand development, from loading film into the developing tank to mixing chemicals and completing the process for either 35mm or 120 film.

If you’re keen to explore beyond the basics, we offer additional sessions where you can experiment with more advanced techniques. Options such as pushing or pulling film, double exposure, or film souping are available, though sticking with standard developing is always a solid choice if you prefer to keep things simple.
